X1 Visa
This category is for students planning to study in China for more than 180 days. The X1 visa typically allows a single entry and must be converted into a Residence Permit within 30 days of your arrival in China.
X2 Visa
This category is intended for students planning to study in China for less than 180 days (e.g. short-term language courses or exchange programmes). The X2 visa typically permits Multiple Entry and remains valid for use throughout its specified validity period. Please note that it is not necessary to convert an X2 visa into a residence permit.
Visa processing takes time, please ensure you apply well in advance of your planned travel date.
You can typically apply for a Student Visa up to three months before the start of your course.
If you are an international student, you must require a X1 visa to study in China, and the JW202 Form is an essential document for the visa application.
After you have accepted the offer and paid the first installment, you will be asked to provide necessary information to initiate the application of JW202.
Once your JW202 Form is issued, you will get an email notification with instructions on how to download your electronic copy.
Health Check Certificate is an essential document for your visa application.
To complete the health check, download the official "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" , visit a medical institution recognised by your local Chinese Embassy or Consulate, and submit the completed form when applying for your visa.
If you will be under the age of 18 as of August 20 2026, you must:
Appoint a legal guardian residing in China
A Guardian Authorisation Letter , certified by the embassy or consulate, or authenticated under the Hague Convention, or notarised by a notary public, and accompanied by a Chinese translation.
