8. Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Applicants must be foreign citizens who do not hold Chinese nationality, as stipulated by the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China.
• Regulated by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, students of Chinese Heritage (one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens by birth) must hold a valid foreign passport or proof of nationality for at least 4 years and have a record of actual residence in a foreign country for a minimum of 2 years within the past 4 years (as of April 30 of the admission year) (A minimum of 9 months of residence in a foreign country within a calendar year shall be considered as one full year, based on official entry and exit records).
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of August 20, 2025. Those who are under 18 at the time of admission must appoint a legal guardian residing in China and submit a Guardian Authorization Letter to the university by mail (The letter must be certified by the embassy or consulate, or authenticated under the Hague Convention, or notarised by a notary public, and accompanied by a Chinese translation).
• Applicants must abide by the laws and regulations of China as well as the rules and policies of the university.
• Applicants must have completed high school or higher education with a strong academic record. Students currently enrolled in other universities who wish to transfer to City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) may apply for credit recognition and course exemptions upon passing the required assessments. The minimum period of study at the university shall generally not be less than two years.

9. General Entrance Requirements
1) Applicants must have completed 12 or 13 years of schooling (including primary and secondary education), obtained a high school qualification, and satisfied the minimum General Entrance Requirements for Bachelor's degree studies. Acceptable qualifications are listed below:
• General Certificate of Education System (GCE AL/IAL and GCSE): Grade E or above in at least three GCE A Level (or A2)/International A Level subjects. Two AS subjects are considered to be equivalent to one AL subject. The same subject cannot be counted at both the A Level and AS Level.
• International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: An IB Diploma with minimum point score of 30 (out of 45) is required.
• By Country: Qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
2) Applicants will need to have achieved an acceptable result in an approved English language test. The following qualifications are accepted as proof of English-language proficiency:
• TOEFL: Minimum total score of 79 in the Internet-based test
• IELTS: Overall band score of 6.5 or above
• SAT: Minimum score of 590 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing in new SAT
• ACT: Minimum score of 24 in both ACT English and ACT Reading (in one sitting)
• GCE System, one of the following: Grade E or above in GCE AL/IAL or AS/IAS English Language, English Literature or English Language and Literature; Grade C/Grade 4 or above in GCSE/GCEOL English/English Language or English Literature; Grade C/Grade 4 or above in IGCSE First Language English, English Language or English Literature; Grade B/Grade 5 or above in IGCSE English as a Second Language
• Cambridge English Language Assessment, one of the following: Grade C or above in Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE); Grade C or above in Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

10. Application
Applicants who meet the admission requirements may submit their international undergraduate applications via the online application system (https://intladmissions.cityu-dg.edu.cn) and upload the following documents:
• International Undergraduate Student Application Form (automatically generated in the application system)
• Copy of Passport
• Proof of Identity and Nationality
• Official Transcript from the highest level of education (scanned copies of both the original and translated versions in Chinese or English)
• Educational Qualification Certificate (refer to Term 9, Item 1 of this Guide)

11. Interview
After the application materials are processed, applicants will receive an invitation for an online interview. Candidates should attend the interview on the specified date as indicated in the invitation.
12. Admission
Successful applicants will receive either a conditional or unconditional offer letter from City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). Students holding a conditional offer must upload the relevant supporting documents to the online application system before the specified deadline in order to exchange for an unconditional offer. Admitted students will receive the following documents:
• Offer Letter from City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan)
• JW202 Form
Admitted students must present their valid passport, Offer Letter, JW202 Form, and other required documents at a Chinese Embassy or Consulate to apply for the appropriate visa for study in China. Upon entry, they must complete residence permit procedures at the local police station within 30 days.
13. Enrolment
All new students must arrive on campus for enrolment on the date specified in the Offer Letter. They are required to present the original Offer Letter, JW202 Form, and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners.
Students who are unable to arrive at the specified date and time may apply for a deferment with the Global Engagement Office of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) in advance. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of their admission.
In accordance with Chinese regulations, international students are required to undergo a physical examination at a designated hospital or clinic upon arrival in China. If the submitted Physical Examination Record is found to be expired, invalid, incomplete, or non-compliant, students must undergo a new examination. Residence procedures can only be completed with a valid Physical Examination Record.
Scholarship
14. Applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic performance, exceptional achievements, and comprehensive excellence will be awarded with an International Entrance Scholarship. The International Entrance Scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, general medical insurance, and a monthly allowance of 2,500 RMB, etc.
15. During academic year, students may apply for the International Student Scholarship offered by City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) as well as various scholarships and financial aids established by external organisations.
Fees
16. For 2025 Entry:
• Tuition Fee: RMB 115,000 per academic year;
• Accommodation: Single occupancy in a twin room: RMB 3,000 per academic year (10 months). Shared twin room: RMB 1,200 per academic year (10 months). Specific room types will be determined based on availability;
• General Medical Insurance: RMB 800-1,000 per year, in accordance with relevant regulations and insurance policies;
• Residence Permit Application: RMB 400-1,000 per application, in compliance with national regulations;
• Cost of Living: Living expenses vary depending on individual preferences, students may adjust according to their personal spending habits and financial situation;
• Other Fees: Costs for meals, on-campus medical expenses, textbooks, and extracurricular activities such as experiments, internships, and professional visits outside the standard curriculum will be charged based on actual costs.

17. Materials Science and Engineering
Materials Science and Engineering is a highly interdisciplinary field that covers knowledge from various disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, mechanics, machinery, electronics, computational science, and materials science. In terms of specialized courses, students pursuing this degree will systematically learn basic theories and specialized knowledge in areas such as material preparation, processing, structural and performance research, and mechanism analysis. They will also master modern material preparation techniques and testing methods, as well as acquire testing skills. Materials science and engineering is an exciting and fascinating subject.
