General Information
City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is located at No. 8, Gaoxiong Road, Songshan Lake, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It sits within the Songshan Lake Science City, a pilot zone of the Greater Bay Area's Comprehensive National Science Center. This area is home to numerous national-level research facilities, such as the China Spallation Neutron Source, Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, Southern Synchrotron Radiation Testing Platform, and Advanced Attosecond Laser Facility. It also hosts high-tech enterprises and new research institutions.

The core courses at City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) are taught in English.

Students will select their majors at the end of first academic year. They have two opportunities to apply for a major change—at the end of Semester A and Semester B in their second academic year.
A student arriving without a valid student visa will not be permitted to enroll at CityUHK (DG) and may be denied entry into China by immigration authorities.

Entrance Requirements / Eligibility
For admission to undergraduate programmes at the University, applicants must meet the General Entrance Requirements. For international applicants, the university entry qualifications of many countries are accepted. Please click here for details of the international qualifications accepted.
As international applicants have a great variety of qualifications, qualifications that are not listed are considered on a case-by-case basis.
For undergraduate programmes, applicants who obtained their entrance qualifications in a language other than English will need a satisfactory TOEFL score (79 in the Internet-based test), a satisfactory IELTS score (overall band score of 6.5) or another acceptable English qualification. Please refer to English Language Requirement page for more details. The obtained English test results must be taken within two years prior to the start date of the admission year.
At present, we currently do not officially accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) for meeting language requirements, you are welcome to submit a DET score as supplementary material to support your application. For proof of English language proficiency, please refer to our English Language Requirement page for full details.
For international applicants, admissions interviews are typically conducted online via platforms such as Zoom, etc. The interview arrangement will be sent to you by an email.
The assessment of applications is based on several factors, including applicants’ academic qualifications, results in relevant subjects, interview performance, portfolios and other relevant criteria.
Fees, Scholarships, Cost of Studying
There is no application fee when applying to our university.

Specific room types will be determined in accordance with the actual housing availability and the regulations of the University; if there are any updates, the University will inform the students who have applied in a timely manner. If we take the twin-room accommodation for example, the dormitory rooms are equipped with beds, wardrobes, bookcases, desks, chairs, air conditioning and other facilities. Yes, entrance scholarships are available for outstanding international students in our undergraduate programmes. You can indicate your interest in being considered for a scholarship when submitting your online admission application. Applicants who receive an entrance scholarship will be notified of the award in the scholarship offer letter issued by the University. Please refer to our Fees and Scholarships for details of the scholarships we offer.
All scholarship recipients shall undergo annual renewal eligibility review. Commencing from the student's second academic year, continued scholarship funding for subsequent years requires successful completion of the annual renewal assessment. Students who fail to meet renewal standards may enter a one-year probationary period with continued funding.
Submitting an Application
For proof of identity and nationality, you may provide either birth certificate or national ID, as long as it clearly indicates your place of birth and nationality.
Applicants are generally required to submit academic transcripts for the last three years of study in secondary education. If you currently have only your final-year transcript, please upload this first and provide the remaining transcripts when available.
If you have the required supporting documents other than your IELTS / TOEFL result at the time of application, you may submit your online application stating the date you expect to obtain your IELTS / TOEFL result. Applicants may receive conditional offers stating a specific test score as a requirement for admission.
Your latest high-school transcript should be included when submitting your application. If you have not received your ACT / SAT result or other examination results such as IELTS / TOEFL results at the time of application, you may still submit your application. Please state the expected date of obtaining the results in your online application, and upload the relevant documents via your application account as soon as the results become available. Final-year high school graduating students may receive conditional offers stipulating the satisfactory completion of their current study and required marks / scores as conditions for admission.
SAT / AP test results must be received directly from the College Board (CityUHK (DG) registered institution code is 62994).
CityUHK (DG)’s ACT code is 8290. Please ask the testing authority to send your ACT results to CityUHK (DG) directly.
Please first upload a copy of your IB scores to your application account, then apply to send the scores to City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) via the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) official website (https://rrs.ibo.org/), so that the school can directly verify the scores through the IBO website. Translated documents should be officially certified. Notarization is required to verify the authenticity of your submitted documents.
According to Chinese regulations, the legal guardian can be any foreign or Chinese citizen residing in China who is formally appointed by your parents through a notarized guardianship deed. This document needs to be notarized in your home country and then authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate.
Application Results
You can check the progress of your application by logging into your application account.
If your application is successful, we will send you an email notification. If your application is unsuccessful, a written notification will be sent by email.
Applicants who have received a conditional offer should supply documentation certifying the fulfilment of conditions before the deadline indicated in the admission offer letter. Once applicants have met the offer conditions, their application accounts will be updated. Applicants will receive another notification confirming the offer.
Admission offers are only valid for the admission academic year and will lapse if you fail to enrol in the admission academic year.
Applications are reviewed based on the information submitted in the year of application. No reference will be made to previous applications.
