On September 19, Stanford University and the international authoritative academic publisher Elsevier jointly released the "Top 2% Scientists in the World" list for 2025. The list is divided into two parts: the "Career-long Impact" ranking and the "Single-year Impact" ranking. A total of 37 scholars from our university made it to the list:
Among them, 24 scholars were featured in the “Career-long Impact” list—an increase of 8 from the previous year—while 36 were recognised in the “Single Year Impact” list, marking a notable rise of 16. These results highlight the sustained enhancement of CityUHK (DG) scholars in research excellence and their increasing influence on the global academic stage.

Introduction to the List
The “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025” ranking identifies the world’s top-cited scholars from nearly 7 million scientists worldwide. It classifies researchers into 22 major fields and 174 sub-fields, evaluating them using a comprehensive set of citation-based indicators. These include total citations, the h-index, the co-authorship adjusted h-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator (c-score).
The list is divided into two parts to reflect different dimensions of research impact: the “Career-long Impact” list, which assesses a scientist’s cumulative career contributions, and the “Single-year Impact” list, which focuses specifically on their citation impact in the previous calendar year (2024).
